Agreement

Using OpenSoil means accepting these terms and the privacy policy.

If you do not agree, do not create an account or submit information. OpenSoil is evolving; new features may require additional terms, permissions, licenses, or notices.

Educational information, not a prescription

OpenSoil provides educational material, demonstration data, community observations, and tools for organizing evidence. It does not provide legal, financial, medical, engineering, pesticide-label, regulatory, or individualized agronomic advice. Soil and crop decisions can affect safety, yield, finances, contracts, water, animals, and the environment. Verify important decisions with appropriate local evidence, product labels, regulations, laboratories, and qualified professionals.

Accounts

• • Provide an account you are authorized to use and keep access to it secure.
• • Do not impersonate another person, organization, farm, laboratory, or professional.
• • You are responsible for activity performed through your active OpenSoil session.
• • OpenSoil may suspend or close accounts involved in abuse, fraud, security threats, or repeated violations.
• • Contact support promptly if you believe your account or data has been compromised.

Your submissions and ownership

You retain ownership of original material you submit. You represent that you have the right to submit it and that doing so does not violate privacy, confidentiality, intellectual-property, contractual, or legal obligations—including authority to share the sampling location and laboratory measurements.

Private form submissions, question drafts, private field workspace records, and private method or tool registrations give OpenSoil permission to store, organize, and use the material to operate the service; they are not automatically published. Publishing a community question, answer, reply, citation, method, or tool description grants OpenSoil permission to host, reproduce, organize, moderate, and display that contribution as part of the service. Anonymous publication hides the account display name where offered but cannot hide identifying details you put in the public content.

For a soil test, your record-level visibility and location selections control what the public feed receives. When you select a shared mode, you grant OpenSoil permission to host, reproduce, organize, and display the selected measurements and public location as part of the service. You can remove the record from the service through your dashboard.

Public method and tool registrations are community documentation, not verified endorsements. Do not publish confidential code, credentials, private repository details, harmful instructions, or material you lack permission to distribute. OpenSoil records schemas and source links but does not execute contributed code in the current MVP.

Soil-test measurements and locations

Enter values and units as reported and identify the method when known. Do not fabricate a result or submit confidential client data, a protected site, or another person’s precise location without authorization. Approximate location reduces precision but does not guarantee that a farm, parcel, or person cannot be inferred from the remaining context. Community soil tests are observations, not recommendations or proof that the same result applies elsewhere.

Acceptable use

Do not use OpenSoil to:

• • Harass, threaten, exploit, deceive, or unlawfully discriminate.
• • Publish personal, confidential, location, client, or proprietary information without authorization.
• • Upload malware, probe private systems, evade rate limits, or interfere with service operation.
• • Fabricate evidence, reviews, identities, citations, measurements, or professional credentials.
• • Hide a material commercial interest or coordinate misleading promotion.
• • Violate law, product labels, intellectual-property rights, or another service’s terms.
• • Scrape private areas, harvest personal data, or build unauthorized profiles of users.

Community content and moderation

Community statements belong to their contributors and may be incomplete, incorrect, or disputed. Review labels describe a process, not a guarantee. OpenSoil may label, limit, correct, preserve, or remove content and may restrict accounts to protect people, data, evidence integrity, or service operation.

Service availability and changes

OpenSoil is provided on an evolving, as-available basis. Features may change, fail, be delayed, or be withdrawn. Do not rely on OpenSoil as the sole copy of important reports, records, methods, or business information. Soil-test CSV export is available, but complete platform exports, automated backups, and guaranteed restoration are not yet available.

Disclaimers and responsibility

To the extent permitted by applicable law, OpenSoil makes no warranty that community content, demonstration data, interpretations, tools, or external links are complete, accurate, suitable, or continuously available. You remain responsible for evaluating evidence and for decisions you make using the service.

Questions, reports, and account requests

Use the support page for account access, privacy requests, harmful or incorrect content, security concerns, or questions about these terms.

Laboratory report uploads

You may upload a laboratory report only when you are authorized to store its contents and associated location and client information. Do not upload malware, active content, confidential third-party records without permission, or material that violates another party’s rights. OpenSoil’s format screening is not a full antivirus service.

CSV extraction is a review aid and PDF values require manual entry. Extraction can omit, misread, or misclassify values. Before confirming a soil test, compare every value and unit with the original report and correct errors. Keep your own source copy; OpenSoil is not a laboratory, does not validate the laboratory’s methods or results, and should not be your sole archive.
